Two lucky anglers spend a morning with Wish and Britto

Ever since Wish and I have been luring fishing in the bream comps, Ben and the Bush N Beach team have been very supportive over the years and to be honest, it would be hard to continue to compete at this level without their support. As a thank-you each year we put up a prize(sometimes that depends on your viewpoint) where we take a couple of readers for a morning’s fishing.

This is as much as a value add to Ben’s readers as it is an opportunity to show what we do and how we do it. With Berkley as our other major sponsor, it also gives the readers an opportunity to see which products we are using, what works, and how to use it.

Generally the prize is put up as a subscription value add as part of the Tinny and Tackle show. This year Rodney and Chris pulled the lucky numbers. In the past, we have taken the winners to the Gold Coast canals, but this year we mixed it up a little, instead taking advantage of the winter run of deep bream at Jumpinpin. So, early one morning in June, the 2 boys saddled up pre dawn to the Jacobs Well boat ramp and off we went. Rodney went with Britto, as it was simply too hard to have 2 x Chris’s in the same boat. On the day it took a little while to find the fish, but we rotated our normal run of spots and eventually found some fish on the deep edges out from Crusoe Island. The fish were definitely tuned into a plastics bite with Chris and Rodney both scoring good fish on the Berkley Pro Tactics and Abu outfits.

As is usually the case in winter, 2 inch Berkley gulp shrimps were the preferred plastics, although fish were also taken on 3 inch Minnow Grubs and Turtleback worms. Britto decided to try somewhere else and found a productive bank near the stockyards. Both boats honed in and the action was pretty good for a couple of hours with regular bites and flow of fish into the livewell. Both boats scored good flathead slotted between 55cm and 65cm which were great fun on bream tackle. About lunchtime we pulled stumps and headed back to the ramp for a couple of photos and compared bags. Although there were no scales on hand, I think the Wish/Chris crew had it over the Britto/Rodney team for the best bag of 5 bream!!! That’s our readers day over for another year and we look forward to 2011.

Cheers Britto & Wish
