New Zealand = BIG Snapper
From the land of the long white cloud comes this story of an exceptionally large Snapper.
We all know that NZ is the home of giant reds and the "Captain" always comes back dribbling about the monster snapper on soft plastics. Well heres another mighty big one to add to the "big fish on GULP" file.
This 14.18kg snapper was caught by angler Marty Reynolds from the boat Trinity, skippered by owner Des Wallace out of Tutukaka in the North Island.
Marty (holding fish) fought this monster for about 20mins on light braid tackle and nuclear chicken soft bait in 50 metres of water off the coast of
6 other beauties up to 6kgs were also caught on this fantastic day on the green and yellow soft baits which were by far the more successful soft bait. That was until the ‘whopper’ chomped the chicken.
Both Marty and Des have been and still are huge supporters of soft bait fishing and have converted all their mates to the same method. They obviously go ok!That's close enough to 30lb old fashioned pounds for me!
Dinger.
