First developed an interest in fishing after seeing the shiny lures for sale on the wall of the local bicycle shop & was self taught. I caught & released my first fish on a lure in 1969 and that started a life long passion for the sport. I greatly enjoy all forms of lure fishing, spin, troll, jig, whatever. Got seriously involved in fly fishing in the mid-eighties and have successfully flyfished species from trout to Murray cod and barramundi in freshwater and from flathead to longtail tuna in the salt.
Have fished from various small boats, canoes and kayaks during the past forty years & still love sneaking along small streams in pursuit of any sportfish. Am passionate about the welfare of Aussie freshwater natives, the four cod species in particular. Specialised in freshwater impoundment fishing for all of the available species for many years & was heavily involved in the stocking program. Pioneered lure trolling for barra in Tinaroo and was the first angler to catch barramundi in Lake Awoonga. Enjoy chasing pelagic species in the salt & sight fishing them.
- First fish - Perch in the upper Brisbane Valley.
- Favourite style of fishing - Varies with each season but almost always revolves around the pursuit of big fish on lures, often from my kayak.
- Favourite waterway/fishing area - That also varies from year to year but am constantly drawn back to the freshwater lakes & spend a lot of time fishing Lake Wivenhoe, a stone’s throw from my back door.
- Most memorable catch - There have been so many it is difficult to select just one. Probably my first barra over 35kg from Tinaroo back in the mid nineties.
- Favourite music - Classic Rock.
- Interests outside of fishing - Wildlife photography, oil painting, my revegetation project & learning to play the didgeridoo.
